Back The Vintage Collection

For the last few years, 3.75" Star Wars action figure collectors have grown more and more frustrated with the releases from Hasbro. The first gripe started with reduction to 5 points of articulation from super-articulated figures that were the standard at the time. Poor character selection and lack of availability compounded the irritation collectors were feeling. Gaslighting by Hasbro executives did not help the issue. The corporation's push to make 6" action figures the new standard while adopted by some, was not embraced by all.

Recently, collector's patience with Hasbro has evaporated and fan sites like JediTempleArchives.com, Yakface.com, JediBusiness.com, ImperialShipyards.net,  and BanthaSkull.com have banded together to have their voices heard. Bossk's Bounty has led the charge and we highly recommend watching the video above to become more informed on the issue and find out how you can get involved.

As long time members of the collecting community, Customs for the Kid knows how important  increased articulation is for providing parts for our projects and "new" parts from "new" characters increases the possibilities available to us for creating something truly special. A thriving 3.75" line is so important to action figure customizers, photonovelists, and diorama builders. That is why we are asking our readers to defend the threatened art forms and join the chorus of voices advocating for a stronger and more robust 3.75" super-articulated line in the Star Wars Vintage collection. Leave comments with Hasbro support staff, letting them now we all want more figures from TVC, not less and ask them to return to the worldbuilding focus we all love.

Yakface.com's Secret Santa 2015

Every year we participate in Yakface.com's Secret Santa event.  This year was no different.  We saw our package was delivered on Christmas Eve so we figured we'd post what we sent as our gift. This year Star Wars customizer JediStyle was the recipient of this year's custom action figure from Customs for the Kid. Two years ago, we did a figure swap with JediStyle for the holiday outside of Yakface.com. so when we found out he was who we were assigned to, we tried to create a companion figure for the first one we sent him.

Since the last figure we created for JediStyle had a Steampunk feel, we tried to add a little of that flavor here as well.  We decided on a fan fiction figure because we know this artist has created a plethora of his own Star Wars fan fiction figures over the years. We also wanted to maintain the desert vibe from the last figure so the new gift would look good posed with the older one. We really wanted to create a diorama stand that would have housed both figures, but the album cover for High Adventure's "High Five" release cut too deep into the time we had to devote to this project.

When making this figure we imagined him to be an individual on the run. Hiding on the fringes of the desert, behind a mask, rounding up criminals trying to disappear on the fringes of civilization. This was the first time we attempted doing wig work for an action figure.  Adding in the thread was also daring to venture outside our normal process.

We included some pictures below of the previous Secret Santa action figure from 2 years ago that we mailed to JediStyle.

DARTH DADDY's CUSTOMIZING CORNER: localgotal

Star Wars customizer localgotal does not physically create his action figures with plastic.  Instead he makes a digital custom.

What is a digital custom you ask?  Let's hear a description from localgotal himself.

"By "digital custom" I mean that I've taken various images of other figures from across the web and in Photoshop pieced them together to create an image." - localgotal

His imagery can best be described as a Star Wars collector's wishlist of vehicles and action figures that they'd like to see released before it is too late and the new films launch.  If Hasbro wants to know what collectors would like to see in the future, check out Yakface.com presents...Concept Series: Action Figure Customs by localgotal.   I can't pick a better voice to speak to what I know I want as a collector.  What he has put on display is exactly what I'd like to see released.  Clear the parking lot!  This is the last chance for these figures to be released with all the new product that will be produced with the new films coming out. Between the new Trilogy and Spin-Off movies coming out, there are just so many things here on display that I'd like to get before OTC toys are gone from toy shelves forever. His suggestions are a love letter to Hasbro spilling forth all our wishes and desires.

localgotal has such great eye, and his representations of the characters from the films are spot on.  He definitely picks the best parts from everywhere and fits everything together seamlessly.  I almost wish this stuff was reality and I'd be able to bring it all home.  Hasbro's investors are sleeping at the wheel. Stockholders need to take a more active role in the companies that they invest in.  I wish this was Hasbro's selection in 2014 giving a last hurrah to the OTC to prep everyone for 2015.  They'd make a fortune off of me!

What I like is that localgotal's imagery is an "ongoing series" and I can see us getting figures from all the Star Wars content eventually. He's only been at it since November. This is only the beginning. His recurring feature on Yakface.com needs to become part of your web browsing activity if you are a fan of Star Wars figures.  As a customizer, it is definitely a completely different skill set, but the task is equally difficult.

And this guy definitely brings the Photoshop skills! Love his imagery! I certainly couldn't do what he does.

I want localgotal in charge of the Star Wars line going forward. We need to change the guard. Yakface.com stumbled upon greatness when they found localgotal.
