DARTH DADDY's CUSTOMIZING CORNER: Ric Customs

Darth Daddy's Customizing Corner featured Star Wars custom action figure artist Ric Customs in his latest post over at The Star Wars Underworld.

This week's featured artist is Ric Customs from Singapore. He's a big fan of Star Wars and Bruce Lee. His artwork is mainly custom Star Wars action figures. His work pays homage to the video games of Star Wars from The Old Republic to The Force: Unleashed.  He also finds inspiration from The Clone Wars animated series.    I really suggest using the links I provided below to see more of his work because this artist has been busy.  He has a vast body of work filled with material I haven't seen anywhere else. Ric Customs' Mandalorian action figures are must view material!

"BATTLE FOR ENDOR" CHARAL action figure created by CUSTOMS FOR THE KID

Our first custom action figure post for 2015.  Even though it is our first post of the year, this action figure was actually made in 2014.

For my 5 year old nephew's birthday 2 years ago, we gave him the entire Star Wars video library complete with all the films, The Clone Wars TV episodes, and the old Ewok movies that were made for television when I was a little kid. When my nephew began to watch some of the content that we gave him, he started with the "The Battle for Endor" movie. He loved the movie so much that he watched it 3-4 times a day for weeks on end.

When we visited his house on vacation, we brought him the Vintage Wicket and Star Tours Teek action figures, as well as, the Ewok Battle Pack that was exclusive to Toys R' Us. While we were visiting for the week, he saw us make custom action figures for the blog and was really impressed with our ability to make our own toys. So much so, that he asked if we could make a Noa and a Cindel for him last Christmas.

He really liked what we made him, so this holiday, he asked for some of the baddies from the same film. We thought it would be fun if we made him a Charal action figure.  To do so, we used the body from a G.I. Joe Baroness action figure, and used green stuff to sculpt on her armor and necklace.  Originally, I wanted to do an original head sculpt, but due to time constraints and a heavy work load, I had to utilize the Black Series Mara Jade head to finish the custom in time for the holidays.  I just gave the head a simple repaint.  The hardest part was creating the soft goods and the feather cape that she wears. The dress and cape I took from the Black Series Luminara Unduli action figure and sewed in a red liner from some spare fabric I had left over from my Mother Talzin custom action figure.  It was the first time I ever did feather work, but I was pretty happy with how she turned out.

My favorite part of the project was the crow that Elias sculpted out of Green Stuff. Since Charal frequently uses her red gemstone ring to transform herself into a crow, we thought it would be fun to include the crow as part of the gift too.

My nephew absolutely loved the new addition to his "Battle for Endor" action figure collection.

CUSTOMS FOR THE KID: 2014 - YEAR IN REVIEW

Happy New Year, everyone!

Well, another year ahead of us.  But before moving forward, it is always fun to take a look back, and see what we accomplished in 2014.

Now the first thing Customs for the Kid noticed were that we didn't make as many figures as we did in previous years.  It was more a year of quality over quantity. The customs we created were the usual fare, easy customs that are great for a beginner customizer to try out, through to more advanced figures for seasoned veterans to tackle.  All skill levels were available to attempt.

We made mostly Clone Wars action figures.  It was our way of saying goodbye to one of our favorite TV shows.  We modified a few Rebels figures and filled in our Jabba's Palace a bit too.  We included a picture of our "Battle for Endor" Charal action figure in the video because she was made in 2014. She hasn't been posted on the blog yet, but she'll get the full treatment very soon.

Last year, we also saw our blog and Star Wars customizing grow in popularity. Dad scored a gig over at The Star Wars Underworld showcasing Star Wars custom action figure artists from all over the world once a week.  In December of last year, Customs for the Kid  had the most traffic that it's ever had in a single month. What really amazed us though was how Darth Daddy's Google+ page is now averaging over a million views a month! Just another wonderful year, and Customs for the Kid hopes to share many more with you all in the years ahead.

"AGENT KALLUS" created by Darth Daddy

Here at home, we are big fans of the Agent Kallus, one of the newest villains featured on the Star Wars Rebels TV show.  We were really bummed that the figures Hasbro released for this line all had 5 points of articulation.  I had a few Revoltech joints around the house so I figured I'd use them to increase the articulation on this figure, and while I was at it, I made his helmet removable, sculpted a new head complete with hair and mutton chops, and finished it off with an extended bow staff.
